Food Safety System Certification 22000

The Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000) offers a complete certification Scheme for the auditing and certification of Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS). It also offers certification for combined FSMS and Quality Management Systems (FSSC 22000-Quality).

FSSC 22000 was developed to provide a certification model that can be used in the whole food supply chain. It covers aspects such as the safe production of prepared food items and it follows the same criteria for being certified as the standard defined in ISO/TS 22003.

3 Components of FSSC 22000

  • ISO 22000 – Provides a common framework to entire Supply Chain to provide and manage Requirements, Communication internally and externally and continual improvement.
  • PRPs – Pre-Requisite programs.
  • FSSC 22000 requirements – To ensure consistency, integrity and provide governance.

The food and feed safety management system is said to be complete when it fulfil all the requirements specified by different regulatory bodies. The normative documents shall refer to the requirements specified by the CB in detail with regards to assessment of complete Food & Feed Safety Management System. FSSC 22000 is the next logical step for ISO 22000 certified manufacturers wanting to upgrade their certification to a GFSI recognised Standard.
