ISO 45001 is known as the standard for Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems. This particular guide includes requirements pertaining to the roles of everyone involved in your company. ISO 45001:2018 helps an organization achieve its intended outcomes of its OH&S policy. ISO 45001:2018 is consistent with the organization’s OH&S Policy, which may include achieving specific outcomes for both workers and for stakeholders if relevant. OH&S management system include:
- Continual improvement of OH&S performance;
- Fulfilment of legal requirements and other requirements;
- Achievement of OH&S objectives.
ISO 45001:2018 does not state specific criteria for OH&S performance, nor is it prescriptive about the design of an OH&S management system. ISO 45001:2018 enables an organization to manage all aspects of their OH&S by focusing on worker wellness/wellbeing.
Product safety is not regulated by ISO 45001:2018 so this standard does not address product safety issues. As it relates to worker safety, note that this standard applies to employers and workers within the organization – so information security management systems are not ISO compliant if they do not consider worker risks.
